Collaboration in Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness is a collaborative process, and the Township of Selwyn works closely with our community partners to ensure that our emergency preparedness goals are achieved.

Municipal Preparedness

The Selwyn Township Municipal Emergency Plan to find out how the Municipality will respond during an emergency. The Township works with a variety of other stakeholders. including the County and City of Peterborough and Provincial Ministries, to keep its plan up-to-date and relevant.

Selwyn Township Emergency Management Team

The Township of Selwyn also has an Emergency Control Group, consisting of key municipal staff, who receive regular training and conduct simulated emergencies to ensure preparedness in the event of a wide spread emergency. This control group is in place in the event of a wide spread situation to coordinate the Township's resources and ability to respond to an emergency.

Peterborough County Emergency Plan

The County of Peterborough Emergency Plan ensures the co-ordination of municipal, private and volunteer services in order to assist in organizing effective response and support to emergency situation. Their plan also allows for coordinated emergency support to municipalities in the event of an emergency.

Provincial Preparedness

The Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, through Emergency Management Ontario, maintains a full-time provincial emergency operations centre to monitor the public safety situation and coordinate the provincial response to any emergency.

Federal Preparedness

Public Safety Canada is responsible for developing and implementing federal policies for emergency management. Public Safety Canada also coordinates Emergency Preparedness Week (first full week of May, annually) in collaboration with the provinces/territories and partners.
