Peterborough Humane Society Expands Pet Licensing Program with DocuPet to Include the Township of Selwyn

A simplified online experience paired with a complimentary lost pet service adds value to dog licences

(Selwyn, ON, December 16, 2024) — Peterborough Humane Society is pleased to announce the expansion of its pet licensing program to include the Township of Selwyn. Starting Monday, December 16, 2024, Selwyn dog owners will be able to obtain a licence with Peterborough Humane Society, supported by DocuPet, North America’s premier pet licensing services provider.

Adding the Township of Selwyn to the Peterborough Humane Society's pet licensing program is a significant step toward promoting responsible pet ownership and enhancing pet safety in the community. Peterborough Humane Society partnered with DocuPet in 2019 to support their licensing program.

Selwyn dog owners will now have access to a reliable pet identification and reunification program, ensuring their pets' safety. They can choose from hundreds of unique designer tags or customize their own online. Every DocuPet tag is linked to the HomeSafe® 24/7 lost pet service and also serves as their official pet licence. The tag’s unique code connects directly to the pet’s secure online profile, allowing anyone who finds a lost pet to create a Found Pet Report in seconds. Pet owners can also quickly file lost pet reports, with 24/7 dispatch support to help reunite pets with their families.

“By expanding our program to include the Township of Selwyn, we are ensuring more pets receive the best possible protection,” said Shawn Morey, Executive Director of the Peterborough Humane Society. “A pet licence provides a simple way for pet owners to identify their pet quickly and reduces the number of lost pets in our community and local shelters."

With a mission to provide a safe and happy home for every pet, DocuPet’s innovative platform supplies significant resources to Peterborough Humane Society, allowing it to operate efficiently and deliver critical animal services.

“The addition of the Township of Selwyn is a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of more pets in the area,” said Grant Goodwin, DocuPet’s CEO. “Pets wearing DocuPet tags spend little to no time in the shelter versus unlicensed pets. We thank the Township of Selwyn for coming on board and being an impactful part of the solution.”

Thanks to a new partnership, Selwyn dog licences are now valid for a full 365 days from the date of purchase, replacing the previous December 31 expiration. All dogs in the City of Peterborough and Township of Selwyn must be licensed annually. Pet owners can register online at peterborough.docupet.com, by mail, phone, or in person.
